Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (previously Dumdum International Airport) is located at Dumdum in the northern suburb and is approximately 17 km from the city centre. In 1924, the first time ever a flight (Dakota-3, a plane which operated in World War II) landed in Dumdum. The airport currently has two sections: international and domestic next to each other and handle about 300 passenger flights every day.
