I don't believe in the prptierosy gospel, but I do think trusting God is worthwhile for he is the only one who is entirely trustworthy. Having been adopted into the family of God by believing in his Son, Jesus Christ, my life is no longer my own, but his. I pray he would show me the way to walk and give me all I need to follow him. I believe God is my provider. I believe all things good and perfect come from above meaning, they come from God. I surrendered my life to Jesus when I was seven years old, and each day I can choose to trust God not just say I trust God, but truly trust God. I believe God will keep me breathing until his purpose for me has been fulfilled. Once his purpose for me has been fulfilled he will call me home to heaven. Until then, I trust God will provide all I need as I seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness. God has proven himself sufficient in my life time and time again. Does he promise me prptierosy? No. But he has given me life for today and that's enough. If he chooses to give me life tomorrow that's a blessing I don't deserve.

Tell me, why would you want to watch such Bong shows? (No, I know YOU wodlun't. But why would ANYONE? Because if they didn't watch them, they wodlun't have existed, right?)Apne ghar mein nobody really watches them. TV usually means the news or some movie. But yeah, sometimes you do come across them while channel-surfing and if the special effects are as bad as on some of the other regional language channels, well Ekta Kapoor doesn't seem so bad.You are right. The problem with Flickr (or not) is probably cuz I don't have Flash. Sigh. I thought I did. Must have expired.

As a "prabasi" Bengali living across the pond for over four decades, we are thirsty for the stories and news about " Gram Banglar Anache Kanache".

We were looking to see more articles for the Bengal villages. It's about a year passed since Sujit Sengupta published his last article about Dinabandhu's Bungalow house at Krishnanagar.

Please come up with more such articles.

Worderful. This article reminds me of my childhood days during winter. As my childhood gone , it seems the era of the pure sweet "khejur ras" also been lost for ever.
Today's "kejur gur" sold at places like Sealdah contains 30 per cent pure khejur gur , at best.
The species called "Siuli" would soon be an extinct species.

writer Dinabandhu Mitra is the pride of Bengal n in particular of all the residents of Krishnagar.I think it played an important role in the British exile n freedom movement.... all ahould approach the present Govt to include the relics in the list of the heritage commitee WB..there are lots of ppl like me who love n respect history.

I dont know if there is any owner of the present building n they demanded any ransom for preserving the building by the heritage commitee WB.I am sorry to note tht the restoration bid of sister nivedita's once residence at Bagbazar faced a serious hurdle as the present owner demanded 1.10 crore from the Govt even if an alternate dwelling with 38lacs offer was agreed. Sister Nivedita had a great contribution for this country but we never showed proper respect to her even today. If ppl underestimate us wht is their fault??

This shows the basic lack of awareness of our administration and also that of our people people. And this is contrary to our common perception that we Bengalis are the most cultured folk in India. Its a shame. This building is not an isolated case, there are anumber of such buildings belongung to famous people which are in ruins.

Bengali sweets have unparallel taste. When I noticed your pictures showing varieties of Bengali sweets including "Sarpuria-Sarvaja" I was really salivating to taste them. Although, I probably never tasted the sweets prepared by that particular store, I tasted a lot of sweets in Krishanagar on my way to Nabadwip and Mayapur several decades ago. Now thousands of miles away across the pond, your story and pictures really brings back my old memories of Krishanagar.

Thanks for your article about Krishnanagar. That reminds me about my visit to Krishnanagar
about 5 decades ago when I was a young boy. I vividly remember the month-long village fair in the Raja Krishchandra's palace compound. It was a very popular and well attended village fair. Now residing across the Atlantic and reading your article flashed back my memories about Krishnanagar.

I used to cherish the famous earthen sculptures created by the village artisans. I do not know if the same tradition of the month-long village fair held in the Bengali calendar month of Baishak (month of May)is continued. If so, an article about the month-long fair along with pictures will be highly appreciated.

It is wonderful, indeed. There are lots of good things Bengal can offer to India and the world. But, what bothers me the most, why there are so many political vendetta, killing and dirty polititcs going on and it is cancerning our society, culture, religion and the family unity. I pray to Mother Durga that somebody will help and improve the poor condition of Bengal. Maoists and CPI(M) must be eradicated. Let us work together to improve the condition and develop Bengal.

These temples are very nice to look at and appreciate the beauty of our religion and culture. The main question is, why Bengal Govt. does not look after these old buildings and keep up, before all temples fall apart.

It is time, CPM does something good for Bengal and spend money to renovate the old structures. May be the CM is to busy to castigate Didi and the central govt.

Keep up the excellent work. I love to see the real village life in Bengal and how we can improve the live style; give the children basic education, food and job opportunity for the youths. We, Indians must work together. We must avoid 'Bandh' and stop killing our own people. It is so sad that our elected politicians are making mega dollars and the poor people and the very hard working farmers are getting poorer. Come on Indians, we can do much better. Let us work harder, together and bring our Mother India, where it should be.

I am from West Bengal, but staying far away for last 17 years. When I found your site, it gave me the fragrance of Bengal. Now I can always be in touch with Bengal. I just want to say one thing is that in some pictures the photograph clarity is not so good. Another thing I found is that in West Bengal and Kolkata people are not so serious about RTI, I think you can educate people who are harassed by so called Government departments. I stay in Gujarat, here people from city area and rural area both get the same right. You can include my comment in your site. Wish you all the success.

This is an wonderful website and I am just loving the new section. However when I was going through the article on Kanika Banerjee, I found the name of her sister Misprinted. It should be changed from Suhita to Jharna. She has a sister named Suhita, but the one reffered to here in the article as well as pictured with Bithika is Not Suhita But Jharna. I know the family..so I know my information is 110 % correct.

It was wonderful to see the works of Tung family and that of Sanjay Kar. We have fantastic talents in gram Bangla and we will be glad to see that government or non government organisations help these talented artists and thereby promote their works beyond the borders of the district. These people are the true bearers of our losr Bengali culture. Would it be possible to provide more details about the location of this village and how to go there. During my next trip to India I will definitely like to visit these great artists.

I belong to Tribeni in Hoogly distric. There is a beautiful story about "Tribeni". Allahabad is also called Tribeni because of the "Three Rivers Sangam" (there is merging of three rivers in Allahabad). Hoogly's Tribeni has opposite story as those rivers who split in Allahabad joined here (called "Mukto Beni"). If some one can collect and publish this story, it can be another beautiful story like "Jagannath Tarkalanker".

The story about Sir Ashutosh Mukherji travelling in a train with an Englishman and the happenings concerning his shoes etc. is wrong. It did not happen with Ashutosh Mukherji but with Shri Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar. A corrigendum would be appreciated.

I just had the pleasant experience of going through the website where the works of art of Sri Biswarup Dutta are displayed and felt really proud as a resident of Bankura that he belongs to this town. His works are of the highest standard and deserve appreciation by one and all. I wish him greater laurels which he richly deserves.
