Regarding Markini Bangali - 5
Seems like the writer is either a new comer or just visiting the USA. Those who are staying abroad for a longer periods of time, for example, 15, 20 or 30 years do not really feel proud of their long stay, as stated by the writer. Is it possible that the author is suffering from some kind of complexity and therefore perceived the simple statements as the matters of pride?

I liked the "names" part. The best of all is "Danda". But unfortunately I have a little different feeling about Americans, they try harder to pronounce our names correctly than we try changing ours. My wife's name is Jayashree, and every American I met asked a thousand times to know how to pronounce it correctly. In fact the funniest thing happened with her name is that, she did her graduation from Madras but did her post-grad from Calcutta and she was forced to change the spelling of her name from "Jayashree" (as was there in her certificates) to "Joyasri". And the funniest of all is that the "clerk" ,who argued about the change, told me that the spelling is according to Rabindranath. I haven't ever heard anything funnier than this, don't you agree? In contrary, all her colleagues calls her Jayashree as good as I or any Indians do. I understood that you have the same feeling as I do about the utter stupidity of Americanizing (or I should say Westernizing) our real names. It is absolutely a disgrace from our part that we urge to conceal our identity and probably feel proud by doing so. I am sure if they can say "Schwazenneger", they will definitely be able to say "Dhananjoy" or "Biswarup". I sincerely join with you and tell, "Please do not distort your identity, be proud of what you are. Change from Santosh to Sandy doesn't change "You", please remember that. Thank you".

Read your essay and comments, funny and somewhat real. The words referred are mostly what we term as "colloquial" and not every American uses these words on a day to day basis. Most educated Americans speak a better brand of english than depicted. American english is simple and easy to spell pronounce than English english. I have studied under Cambridge U till bachalaureate level and then switched to American english from Master's level. I find the American version most methodical and eliminates the guess work in silent letters in english. The pronunciation also follows the spelling. The mannerisms as depicted in your essay only conveys that Americans are very well mannered.

Dear Writer,
This article is very interesting as well as 100% realist. We experience same type of incidents here in U.K. Like American ABCD and Banana, here we use 'coconut' for people of Indian sub-continent who are brown just like outside of a coconut but inside they think and behave like white people just like inside of a coconut. These are brain washed people or UK born confused people. On the other hand some peole are more Indian or Bengali than the people who are in India or in Calcutta. They like to have Shukto, Muro deya daal and Chinghri maccher malai-kari. Some Gujrati peole still use Jhanta( made of palm leaves)instead of Hoover or brush to clean their kitchen floor. Anyway , many thanks for all your interesting articles. Please keep it up and let us enjoy your articles. Yours faithfully,
