Comments on Interview of Chandrabindoo From: Subrato Das [mailto:sdas@rpgnet.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 28, 2003 2:09 AM Nice to browse thru the content that is likely to continue soon. May I suggest to publish interview, if possible, of Anindya and Chandril of Bangla Band ‘Chandrabindoo’ as I guess they are trying to capture the confusing mindset of college students thru their songs which is so different than that of ours who were brought up during ‘70s and ‘80s. Thanks, Subrato Das From: kaushik.banerjee@tcs.com Sent: Tue, 3 Oct 2006 17:26:35 I read and enjoyed the interview with the band Chandrbindu. However, the reason I am writing my comment involves the origin of the band name. I don't know why they are not aware of the same. I have a friends circle in Salt Lake, which was formed in around 1979. This consisted of mostly Engineering Students. Like most of the friends circles, we also used to stage drama, starting from Puja Pandels and reaching some hired auditoriums. Some of also used to sing in Dance Dramas. The rehearsals, coordination and strategic meetings used to take place in the house of Probal Sengupta, whose family is a very educated and cultural one. Probal himself is an exceptionally brilliant student, an ex-IITian and a Software Consultant. Upal Sengupta is his younger brother, whom we knew as a nice and witty kid. Both brothers are avid fans of Sukumar Ray and Shibram Chakraborty. Probal used to claim that he remembered all the poems from Abol Tabol and Upal used to recite pieces from Shibram. It was the idea of Probal Sengupta to give the group a name. The name 'Chandrabindu' came out of him almost spontaneously. We hardly asked or questioned the implication of the name, as it was very catchy and imaginative. Later on, as usual, the group broke up and no more drama or cultural activity continued thereafter, as we all got busy in our professional and family lives. .... .... Later I came to know that Upal and his friends have come up with a music band called Chandrabindu. Recently I caught up with Probal and he admitted that the same name was adopted by the music group formed by Upal and his friends. "They should give me royalty ", he added with a smile.
