Utpalendu Chakrabarty was born in Calcutta in 1948. He drew attention of serious cinegoers with his political film 'Chokh'. Chakrabarty was involved in politics in his student life and spent time in Purulia among the tribals. In his later days he took the profession of teaching, but his passion was cinema. He made a number of nice documentaries alongwith feature films.
