India achieve a hatrick of Nehru Cup Triumphs
India retained the Nehru Cup 2012 when they edged out
the indomitable lions Cameroon ranked much higher in
FIFA rankings through penalties at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium,New Delhi this evening.With this triumph the hosts
achieved a hatrick of wins in the Nehru Cup having won the
last two editions 2007 and 2009 also.The detailed report is

Indians defended stubbornly against the Lions and took the
lead in the 19th minute when Gouramangi Singh nodded in
a cross from Clifford Miranda from a free kick.Cameroon
hit back through Thierry Makon in the 29th minute when
he collected a faulty clearance from Raju Gaikwad and beat
Indias custodian Subrata Pal with a rasping shot.The teams
were level 1-1 at half time. On resumption the Lions went
ahead in the 54th minute when Kingue Mpondo foxed the
entire Indian defence with a smart header.In the 84th minute
the Indians were awarded a penalty when Sunil Chhetri was
brought don by the rival goalkeeper in the box and the skipper
himself converted the spot kick.The teams were were locked 2-
2 after the regulation period and the matach had to be decided
in penalties.While Indians converted all five makon Thierry
missed the last kick of Cameroon.Syed Rahim Nabi was Man
of the Match while Sunil Chhetri was Man of the Tournament.
