I think that diversity of genres and a vigorous bi-culturalism and bilingualism are my hallmarks as a writer, and it is my aim to maintain this quality to the best of my ability" - she says about herself. She is a leading Bengali essay , drama writer and poet  She writes poetry in both English and Bengali. She has six full length collections in Bengali and three in English.  Ketaki was born in Calcutta in 1940. She got educated in Calcutta and England. The residency of England for more than last three decades, did not stop her from writing essays, short stories, poems in Bengali. In her own words - "my fiction and drama are set in England and written in Bengali". She is also a noted Tagore scholar and translated many poems of Tagore. Her work "Rabindranath O Victoria Ocampor Sandhaney" is a research Novel on these two great poets which brought her Ananda Sahitya Award in 1986. Her other book on them "In Your blossoming Flower-Garden: Rabindranath Tagore and Victoria Ocampo" was published by Sahitya Academi in 1988.  In 1997, she received Ananda Sahitya Award for the second time. This time the award was shared with Sushobhan Adhikary, for the book Ronger Rabindranath:Rabindranather Sahitye o Chitrakalay Ronger Byabahar. Recently she has started working on translating poems of Budhhadev Bose. She translated English poetry to Bengali too.  Her translation of Tagore poems "I Wont Let You Go: Selected Poems of Rabindranath Tagore" was entitled as recommended translation from Poetry Book Society. Night's Sunlight - author's own translation from her Bengali play Rater Rod has been staged in different places in England and India. Kidlington, near Oxford, has been her permanent home since 1969.
