| DURGAPUJA PICTUTRES : BENGAL : 2008 |
Sujit Sengupta (sujit_sengupta@hotmail.com) and his team of photographers have captured different moments of Durga puja
from different parts of Bengal. Starting
from Malla Raja's house in Bankura to the unique Dashami celebration on Ichhamati river in
India-Bangladesh border, they have traveled through several districts to get
glimpses of the greatest festival of Bengalis. The photographers have framed the grandeur of gorgeous pandals of
Bardhaman and Malda town, the heritage of the traditional old pujas in the villages and towns of Hooghly and Bardhaman
district, the pujas of suburban areas of Howrah and north 24 Parganas. Mr.
Sengupta himself was intrigued by the rich heritage of Rarh Bangla and made frequent trips to Bankura and
Birbhum district. Some of these pujas can be traced back to 250-300 years and one even is said to be known
as 700 years old. We are thankful to this effort of Mr. Sengupta and his team comprising of
Pralay Debgupta, Amritaranjan Nandi, Subhomoy Das, Swagato Modak, Pulak Ghosh, Gangadhar Mukherjee
and Debananda Pyne.
