Esplanade East. Located in Esplanade. Named as Sidhu-Kanhu's Dahar . A junction where political gatherings, agitations, meetings are held. The street claims lots of history related to modern politics.Ferry boat connecting Howrah and Calcutta. Probably the easiest mode of communication between  these twin cities on two opposite banks of river Hooghly ( Ganges). Usual frequency 15 mins and fare is in the range of Rs.1.5-3. Fishing boats and fishermen on the river Hooghly ( Ganges ). Fish is the most popular non-vegetarian food among the Bengalis. And mostly sweet water fish. Once this river was source of tasty sweet water fish, but, nowadays, due to water pollution there are not many of them near the city.

In the map of West Bengal the river makes spinal cord of the southern half. The British people came to Calcutta around 300 years ago by sailing through this river from the Bay of Bengal.Hand drawn rickshaw. Another way of short distance communication. Found in selected areas mostly in central Calcutta. Some claim not found elsewhere. Vidyasagar setu ( commonly known as 2nd Howrah bridge), connects the city to the other side of the river. Toll is collected from passing vehicles. One of the longest stayed girder bridge with composite deck built anywhere in the world. The bridge is supported by 152 cables form 2 pairs of steel towers. Spans around 640 meters. (457 m main span and 182 m and two ends each).
Calcutta Port on river Hooghly. Once the largest port of India, now suffers from silting at river Hooghly.Asiatic Society, founded in 1874 by Sir William Jones as a center for Asian studies. Has big collection of historical documents.Boating at Eden Gardens.
