INDIA WINS U-19 WORLD CUP IN CRICKET

Unmukt Chand led from the front with swashbuckling 111 from 130 balls which contained 7 fours and 6 sixes which enabled India to win the U-19 Cricket World Cup at Tony Ireland Stadium,Townsville,Australia.In the final India defeated the hosts by six wickets with 14 balls to spare.Chand thereby emulated the feat of Mohammed Kaif and Virat Kohli to previous U-19 World Cup triumphe in 2000 and 2008 respectively.

Australia batted first and could muster 225 for the loss of 8 wickets from the stipulated 50 overs.G.Bosisto with 87(120 balls) along with A.J.Turner 43 (50 balls) were the main contributors.In fact the two of them had a partnership of 93 runs (165 balls) which falicitated the hosts to reach their total after they had lost their half of their batting side at 103 runs.For India Sandeep Sharma impressed with 4 for 54 while Bengal’s Ravi Kant Singh and B.Aparajith took a wicket apiece.

India started their reply shakily when they lost their opener P.Chopra in the first over itself.But it was the other opener skipper Unmukt Chand who thereafter took control of the proceedings.First with B.Aparajith he put on 73 runs in 13.2 overs and then after a mini collapse took complete charge with S.K.Patel to lead India to victory with an unbroken partnership of 130 runs.Chand scored a brilliant 111 while Patel scored 62 from 84 balls.Chand entertained the motely crowd with a brilliant strokeplay which included 6 sixes and 7 fours.
