Achievers awarded Balsara award
He has long being a resident of Kolkata. Even after his death he lives on courtesy his musical genius. In order to commemorate the 90th birth anniversary of V.Balsara, musician per excellence, a musical evening was held at Moulali Yuvachakra, organized by V. Balsara memorial committee and Calcutta united cultural society. Director Tarun Majumder inaugurated the program. He said that Balsara was the man who took life as it came. He was equally unmoved in joy or sorrow. Singer Nirmala Mishra reminisced that Balsara took great pride in calling himself a Bengali. Banashree Sengupta shared the story of her first recording with Balsara in the year 1970. Seasoned singer Sanath Singh acknowledged how Balsara’s creation, Melodica, a musical instrument became a prominent name in Kolkata music scenario. The V.Balsara award went to Sanath Singh and Tarun Majumder gave away the prizes. Amar Laha, Rajat Nandy were also felicitated. Popular folk singer Amar Pal was another recipient of the award. He gave the show a miss citing illness. Tanima Pal, his granddaughter accepted the prize on his behalf.
After the prize distribution, the show wrapped up by enchanting performances by Suparna Ghosh, Shaibal Mitra, Dipankar Chattopadhay. Rajdeep Ganguly enumerated some of V.Balsara’s creations on his melodic. Rajlakshmi Ghosh, student of Balsara presented a piano session. Later a Rabindrasangeet album of songs sung by Balsara was released.
